WHY?
Because intimate scenes need preparation and clear boundaries. The Intimacy Coordinator protects artistic freedom while safeguarding safety and personal limits—for a respectful and professional work environment.
WHAT?
Analyze scripts, assess risks, choreograph scenes, clarify boundaries and consent, facilitate conversations, introduce best practices, advise the director and production—and always be a trusted contact for the cast. They also provide technical solutions like barriers and modesty garments and coordinate with everyone involved to find shared approaches.
WHEN?
Ideally active as early as the script development phase or at the latest during prep—especially present on set days involving intimacy. They can also support during casting and rehearsals.
HOW?
With sensitivity, strong communication, knowledge of acting techniques and psychological principles, legal standards, movement choreography—and the ability to build trust. The goal: creative freedom under safe conditions.
