Costume
Costume – When clothes tell a story
Costumes speak before any actor utters a word. They reveal the time period, a character’s lifestyle, emotions, struggles – even what they might want to hide. The costume department adds depth and credibility to every figure on screen, often before they’ve delivered their first line. Every outfit is part of the film’s visual storytelling.
Whether it’s historical robes, futuristic suits or subtly chosen everyday clothes – costume design is about research, intuition and a deep understanding of character and story.
What does the department do?
Design and develop unique costumes for each character – Every piece of clothing helps tell the story behind the character.
Research materials, cuts, and styles – Whether period, sci-fi or timeless: it all starts with solid research.
Fit costumes to each performer – During fittings you’ll see the look on the actor for the first time. That’s when you refine the concept with the actor, director, make-up, camera, and production design teams – so it works visually, practically, and emotionally.
Maintain continuity throughout the shoot – Outfits have to match the story at every point. That’s why the costume team works closely with the continuity team – especially when scenes aren’t shot chronologically.
Work closely with production design, direction, camera, and make-up – Because the big picture only works when everything fits together.
